Tuberculosis (TB)

Chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, mainly affecting the lungs but can involve other organs.

Transmission

Through inhalation of contaminated droplets (aerosols) from an infected person (cough, sneezes).

Symptoms

Persistent cough (often with blood-tinged sputum), low fever, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue.

Risks

Severe pulmonary complications, systemic dissemination (miliary tuberculosis), tuberculous meningitis, death if untreated.
