Rare viral disease caused by an orthopoxvirus, similar to but less severe than smallpox.
Through direct contact with skin lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets, or contaminated materials. Can also be transmitted from infected animals.
Fever, headache, muscle pain, skin rash with lesions that progress (macules, vesicles, pustules, crusts).
Severe complications in rare cases, respiratory issues, death.
